We arrived at the venue early, good job we did because queues had already developed. After a nice chat with others inc a lady who had flown in from Finland to see them!, we were checked in. The venue is small but quaint and had a great atmosphere. We managed to get front row positions and were blown away by the quality, power and finer nuances that the Von Hertzen Brothers brought to their performance. This was the first time that the planets had aligned and we were able to see them and wow we quickly realised what we’d missed. Their choice of songs were influenced slightly by the current situation in Ukraine, which I think brought even more passion into the show. There was no support and the gig started late but they strung together song after song of superb musicality and vitality. Their current album “blue forest” had the most songs off one album moniker but it’s a brilliant record with no weak songs, so I’m glad they concentrated on it. The band managed to fit in a few extra songs compared with their last sets in Oct2022, which included The Arsonist and Flowers and Rust, both of which sit firmly in my VHB top 10. Personally I’d have preferred a bit more volume on the vocals but I suspect as we were right at the front LHS up against the stage, we didn’t get the full stereo effect. My highlights were; New day Rising, The Promise and Flowers & Rust. One of the best gigs I’ve been to for some time and I’m already looking forward to seeing them again, when they’re in the vicinity of Manchester.

Von Hertzen Brothers, Night and Day, Manchester - 1st February 2023
The amount of energy was huge! Both the songs from new album and those beloved older ones were played with fresh touch and such virtuosity! I loved every second of it!

Von Hertzen Brothers, The Garage, London - 16th November 2017
The Waterfront venue was quite small but made the whole evening feel a lot more personal. The support band were good and it seemed a shame that the place wasn't packed out to see both bands. I thoroughly enjoyed myself, my friend who hadn't heard much of the Von Hertzen Brothers music, and only came along because another friend couldn't, now thinks they're great too. It's the first time I've seen them live and it's definitely not the last, I intend to see them whenever they tour in the U.K. I live near Cambridge so it would be even better for me if they came here to The Junction or Corn Exchange.

Von Hertzen Brothers, Waterfront Studio, Norwich - 14th November 2017
The band were well up for entertaining the modest crowd, most of whom seemed to know every word. The new songs were actually better live than on the new album - more powerful and raw and the old tracks were majestic; however the volume was just too loud. Although I am now admittedly in the 40s, the intricacies of Kie's guitars and some of their famed harmonies were completely lost in a wall of sound. It did seem to improve midway through, or maybe I just was a bit deaf. So, 5 out of 5 for entertainment, but lose a star for sound quality.
