UB40 & Soul II Soul, OVO Hydro, Glasgow - 16th November 2024

UB40 on top form

UB40 celebrating 45 years and on the form of their lives- a superb performance showcasing old and new tracks, fan favourites and more. The recent additions to the band notably lead singer Matt Doyle have brought a new freshness and excitement. Soul to Soul had me wondering if they would see if I stuck my fingers in my ears- just an overly loud endurance test to get to the main event.

UB40 & Soul II Soul, First Direct Arena, Leeds - 15th November 2024

Brilliant

Soul II Soul - Boring & Tedious Couldn’t wait for their “performance” to end. Absolutely awful. UB40 - Amazing, Brilliant, Nostalgic. 5⭐️

UB40 amazing!

UB40 were amazing as is the venue but was very disappointed that the bars are open during the show. People were so drunk carrying drinks back and forward and one man actually fell onto me from behind. Luckily I did not fall over. There was also a young man smoking. People arguing, screeching along to songs as clearly so drunk. Definitely should be thinking of people's safety and not raking in the money at bars.

Artist Bio

Naming themselves after the unemployment benefit form, UB40 formed in 1978, before releasing their debut album ‘Signing Off’ in August 1980 considered by many to be one of the greatest reggae albums ever released by a British band. It was the start of a career that has since seen the band have over forty UK Top 40 hit singles and achieve sales of over 100 million records, making UB40 one of the most successful British groups of all-time.

The award-winning group was first started by friends from various schools and practiced in a local basement. Although the Birmingham band identified with left wing politics, they looked to move past the other punk and two tone bands that proliferated the country at the time.

Influenced by jazz, dub and reggae, the band developed a sound of their own through long and arduous practice. The practice paid off as they shone out when they began playing live concerts - including being invited to perform by Rock Against Racism.

UB40 have topped the charts both here and in the US. Their hit singles include Rat In Mi Kitchen, Don’t Break My Heart, Food For Thought, I Got You Babe, I Can’t Help Falling In Love With You and Red Red Wine.
