Nostalgic and Top Quality Evening

It was great to hear some old classic of 45 years or more in a friendly venue. It never ceases to amaze me how easily the lyrics are remembered! RUTS D.C were excellent as a 3 piece with their ELECTRacoustiC show. There were 2 sets and an encore mixing material from across 6 decades. For sure, I’ll be catching them on future tours. My only regret? Why’s it taken me over 45 years to go and see them sooner!

RUTS DC , The Hairy Dog, Derby - 14th July 2024

Another Great Performance

Always a great gig. They’re always so honest, professional & brilliant in their performance, in addition to genuinely showing that they’re clearly enjoying themselves. Should of been bigger than what they are. Great guys, great band.

Ruts DC, O2 Academy2 Sheffield, Sheffield - 16th February 2019

First formed in 1977 Ruts DC (formally known as The Ruts) are the original punks bets known for their hit single "Babylon's Burning".

After releasing two records as The Ruts, including The Crack (1979) and Grin & Bear It (1980), they have released six studio albums as Ruts DC. These include Animal Now (1981), Rhythm Collision (1982), Rhythm Collision Volume 2 (2013), Music Must Destroy (2016), Electracoustic Volume One (2021) and Counter Culture? (2022).

Artist Bio

Ruts D.C. were formed in 1980 by guitarist Paul Fox, bassist John 'Segs' Jennings and drummer Dave Ruffy. With vocalist Malcolm Owen they had previously been The Ruts, one of the best loved bands of the punk rock era, releasing several fine singles (including 'Babylon's Burning' which earned them a silver disc) and two much-acclaimed albums 'The Crack' and 'Grin And Bear It'. Musically they were always more ambitious than many of their contemporaries, mixing reggae and rock in a manner that still influences musicians today; lyrically they reflected their uncompromising support for causes such as Rock Against Racism.

Following Malcolm's untimely death the three musicians regrouped, adding the musical term D.C. (from the Latin for 'from the beginning') to the name. Their first album 'Animal Now' is regarded by many, as a lost classic, whilst their groundbreaking second release 'Rhythm Collision Volume 1' saw the band collaborating with dub producer Mad Professor on an album that is still seen as a pioneering excursion into what was then a relatively unknown style of music. Despite critical acclaim the band folded in 1983, although on the 16th of July 2007 The Ruts played together one more time when with U.S. punk hero Henry Rollins on vocals Paul, Segs and Dave reunited for an emotional performance at the Islington Academy. With Paul suffering from incurable lung cancer it was an evening which also featured many of their punk contemporaries and which will live long in the memories of all who were there.

In the interim years Segs and Dave have worked separately, and together, with some of the biggest names in the music industry, and Ruts D.C. re-materialised in 2011 with the long-awaited 'Rhythm Collision Volume 2' and select live shows featuring guest DJs and vocalists. Gathering momentum through 2012/13, the band now performs a full-on live show, mixing recent material with Ruts classics, always well received. 2013 saw Ruts D.C. join The Damned as special guests for a very successful UK tour.

Throughout 2014 the band will be gigging in Europe and the UK.
