This month saw Corn Exchange in Newport open to the public following extensive renovation and it is already proving popular with gig-goers. Its ethos to nurture local talent whilst also attracting major acts is a real boost to the city and looks set to become a cultural epicentre in South Wales.
The newly refurbished 500-capacity live music venue and events space re-opened on Saturday, hosting a sold-out launch show headlined by Gwent indie-rockers The Bug Club with comic indie-pop pairing Getdown Services providing support.
Over £73,000 was raised by a highly successful Corn Exchange Crowdfunded campaign endorsed by BBC radio presenter Huw Stephens, with money donated by more than 180 investors including Welsh hip-hop legends Goldie Lookin Chain. The transformation has brought about massive improvements, as outlined by GLC’s Rhys plus operations manager Sam Dabb and city counsellor Emma Stowell-Corten in their All Ears – the Corn Exchange podcast.
