Architects – 'Hereafter'

Earlier in the week, Brighton’s finest metalcore band Architects dropped their monstrously heavy new track 'Hereafter'. Lulling the listener into a false sense of security, the brief intro of soft vocoder vocals and ambient arpeggio synths give way to impassioned screaming and a rampage of guitar riffs as hard as a breeze block.

'Hereafter' will feature on Architects album ‘Holy Hell’ which is due for release on November 9th through essential label Epitaph Records which they promote with massive gigs at Manchester’s O2 Victoria Warehouse, Cardiff Motorpoint Arena and The SSE Arena – Wembley in London. It will be the first time the band have released a full-length record since the death of their guitarist Tom Searle from cancer. His twin brother and Architects drummer said; “Ultimately, there were two choices. Feel sorry for yourself and believe the world to be a horrible place and let it defeat you. Or let it inspire us to live the life that Tom would have wanted us to live.”

I was very worried about people taking away a despondent message from the album. I felt a level of responsibility to provide a light at the end of the tunnel for people who are going through terrible experiences.

Architects tickets are currently available.

Marissa Nadler – ‘I Can't Listen to Gene Clark Anymore

The perfect song for the start of Autumn, Boston born songwriter Marissa Nadler brings out her new single ‘I Can't Listen to Gene Clark Anymore’ which is the latest example of her sublime marriage of Gothic Americana and folk and is taken from her upcoming album ‘For My Crimes’ which comes out in two weeks.

I Can't Listen to Gene Clark Anymore’ is a haunting song which lingers in the air and swirls around the mind as Nadler is joined by fellow folkstar Sharon Van Etten to evoke a bittersweet sense of melancholy and the nostalgia, remembering those shared experiences with a former love now lost to time and circumstance.

I think a lot of people can relate to the sentiment expressed in this song regardless of the specificity of the musical reference. Or at least that is my hope. For me it’s Gene Clark — for others — someone or something else. But, we’ve all been there. I like to turn those feelings into something beautiful as a way to process them and freeze them forever in time and space.

She Makes War – ‘Undone

She Makes War AKA Laura Kidd releases her new single ‘Undone’. Using the perfect combination of Loud / Quiet / Loud, the song explores those moments of fragility we all have with empathy and understanding through huge bursts of indie rock. Kidd explains; We need to give ourselves a breakGiving ourselves time to feel devastated doesn’t make us weak.

Undone’ is taken from her forthcoming album ‘Brace For Impact’ which is released on the 5th of October through Kidd’s very own imprint My Big Sister Recordings and is entirely funded through a PledgeMusic campaign, showing the level of excitement around the new material affording her the creative independence and freedom to pursue her own unique sound.

I’ve never wanted to wait around for the old guard to validate and endorse me – my whole career has been about making the art I want to and finding a way to get it to people. I’m here to share my stories and show my audience I hear and see them too. It’s human nature, to want to know you’re not alone.

She Makes War tickets are currently available.

Albums

Orbital – ‘Monsters Exist

Get ready for some old school rave, because your favourite bespectacled DJs are back with their brand-new album ‘Monsters Exist’!

Orbital burst out of the rave scene right at the end of the 80’s, playing at warehouses and free parties and the Hartnoll brothers became amongst the first pioneering producers to take acid house and techno from the underground into the dazzling lights of the centre stage to become a defining sound of the following decade.

They made the announcement that they would walk away from the decks in 2014, but after a summer of playing some seriously awesome sets, they now release their ninth studio album ‘Monsters Exist’ which has all the makings of a club classic.

Orbital tickets are currently available.

Pale Waves – ‘My Mind Makes Noises

The long-awaited debut LP from your favourite goth tinged pop band from Manchester is finally here! Signed to Dirty Hit, Pale Waves have worked closely with their label mates The 1975 to court mainstream attention by delving into dream pop, new wave and alt-rock to colour their commercial appeal.

Previous results have worked well, with tracks like ‘Television Romance’ and ‘Heavenly’ wracking up some serious streaming figures and creating a devoted fanbase of nu-goths across the UK. And today sees the release of debut album ‘My Mind Makes Noises’ which NME describes as “Emotional, arresting and endearing”.

Singer Heather Baron-Gracie says; “It feels crazy. Even when I’m listening to it on my phone, it’s still so odd to picture us with a full-length album of Pale Waves music. We’ve worked so hard for this to happen and now it’s actually, finally here.
