Superb show

Roundhouse is a great venue, and I was pleased to have balcony tickets so could watch from close-feeling range, without obstruction, and at ease. And then NMA gave one of the best performances I've seen in years - tight, flawless, high-energy, and a fine setlist with plenty of new work. Really good gig, and a fabulous place to see them.

utterly excellent

I hadn't see either Ned's Atomic Dustbin or New Model Army before despite having known about them for decades, so it was great to see them both. Ned's had a full hour in the support slot which was excellent and NMA played for an hour and three quarters. Both bands played a well chosen variety of songs. The sound, lights and atmosphere were all great. Top gig!

New Model Army were, as ever, the best of the best.

I’ve seem NMA for approaching 25 years, and they are still amazing. Great help with the people in charge (II’m a medically retired Snr Radiographer. Ned’s Atomic Dustbin, however, regarded them as “not worth the effort”. Wasn’t really of any interest.. If it happens again, I’ll see the main stage, and the first band will mean I can go to another pub for a while. But always worth the effort. I live at about 100 miles away!

Visceral and vitriolic; New Model Army combine punk rock, goth and metal into one mighty punch. Formed in 1980; the Bradford band have been a major influence on the creation of grunge, with Nirvana citing them as a major influence.


Their current band members include original founder Justin Sullivan (lead vocal and guitar), Dean White (keyboards and guitar), Michael Dean (drums) and Ceri Monger (bass).

Artist Bio

Formed in Bradford in 1980, New Model Army’s beginnings were inspired by Northern Soul, Punk Rock and the incendiary atmosphere of the times. Since then, they have had a long, creative and eventful journey. They have been massively influential in ‘post-punk’, ‘folk-rock’, ‘political-rock’, ‘goth’, ‘metal’ and all kinds of musical sub-cultures but they have steadfastly refused to belong to any club or style that would limit them.

Even without a specific ‘genre’ audience, New Model Army still have album sales in the millions, have attracted some of the biggest producers on the planet (Glyn Johns, Tom Dowd, Andy Wallace, Bob Clearmountain, Joe Barresi) and have built up an almost religious devotion amongst fans. There are very few bands in NMA’s position of being able to record and release what they like when they like, while maintaining a worldwide following and all without making a single artistic or commercial compromise.

Recent years have also seen a renewal in the band’s critical and commercial fortunes. The “Between Dog and Wolf” and “Between Wine and Blood” (2013/14) and “Winter” (2016) albums re-established the band as a significant creative force. And 2019’s “From Here”, album, recorded on the tiny Norwegian island of Giske against the backdrop of sea, mountains and the current events sweeping the world, has seen their highest ever chart positions and some of their best ever reviews.

Due to the current global situation, all dates for 2020 have been rescheduled into Autumn 2021 where the band will be playing 3 hour shows and double nights in some cities looking back over their long career and their huge seventeen album back catalogue to mark their 40th Anniversary.

This is a remarkable band - as hungry and focused as ever, with a continually regenerating audience and insatiable creative ambition.
