Artist Bio

Alcest is primarily the work of Niege. Their alternative guitar driven music is ethereal and introspective. Layers of distortion fill the mind with static and the glorious noise burns passionately into the ears of listeners.

Formed in 2000, the band started life as a black metal project. Founding member Neige had envisioned a solo project but recruited Argoth on bass and Aegnor on drums. The trio recroded the demo Tristesse Hivernale which was subsequnelty released by Drakkar Productions in 2001.

Shortly after the release Niege went back to becoming a solo artist and remained so until being joined by drummer Winterhalter who joined in 2009. Working alone for eight years, the music reflected the solitude nature of working which was also in keeping with how he saw his place in the world.

The fourth album Shelter was released in 2014. The album was recorded at Sundlaugin Studio, Iceland and was engineered and mixed by Sigur Rós producer Birgir Jón Birgisso and featured the vocals of Slowdive's Neil Halstead plus Billie Lindahl from Sweden's Promise And The Monster's and Amiina's strings sections.

Alcest have currently released five studio albums with a new album expected for release next year titled Spiritual Instinct.
