Nothing can stop Osees, Oh Sees, The Oh Sees or whatever they’re called. Nothing. That’s clear from the constant name changes, the ceaseless riffs, the deep dives into experiments and the relentless releases coming from the Californian psyche rockers. In fact, it was only a month ago that they brough out their latest LP ‘Protean Threat’ and now they drop an entirely new mini album ‘Metamophosed’!
“Things were starting to grind to a halt, so it was the perfect time to sew it all up. People need some tunes right now and I think the artists community is making a good run of it. So much great shit is seeing light right now. ‘Metamorphosed’ would’ve been out sooner but with the virus restrictions, shipping of LPs has obviously slowed down and so has manufacturing, so here we are.” – John Dwyer
Expect a whole lot of weird and wonderful played at full volume when Osees kick off their UK tour – tickets on sale with Gigantic!
It’s been for years since we last had a record from Scottish pop rockers Travis, but now Fran Healy and co. are back with ’10 Songs’ which, as you would expect, is ten fine crafted tracks exploring love, life and loss in the modern world.
Feeling like fatherhood has divided his attention, Fran has now been able to give greater focus on the new music which he feels is a real return to form. Check out the loved up yet melancholic single ‘The Only Thing’ which features vocal contributions curtesy of Bangles singer Susanna Hoffs which stands shoulder to shoulder with the band at their best.
“My laser is now back on the band again and it shows. We put out three albums in the last 14 years and they’ve been ok. They’ve been fine. They’re good. There have been some great moments but it just, frustrated me a little bit because you have to get songs out and get on the road. This is another level, singing someone’s song is fine. But I’m not a good person at singing covers or that sort of thing. So, with the complete focus of all these songs been for me, then it’s made it much more cohesive record.” – Fran Healy
’10 Songs’ by Travis is out now on Deluxe CD, Double Deluxe Coloured Vinyl Heavyweight Vinyl with Signed Art Print and a Bundle containing 2CD + Signed Lyric Sheet + Double Coloured Vinyl + Signed Print + 10” Valentine Vinyl.
North East post punks Maxïmo Park are getting ready for their big return with new album ‘Nature Always Wins’. Enlisting the aid of Grammy Award-winning producer Ben Allen (Deerhunter, Animal Collective), their upcoming LP has taken advantage of the time afforded by the lockdown to go even further with the sonic experimentations than ever before.
Their seventh album concludes the single ‘Child Of The Flatlines’ which singer Paul Smiths explains is “an affectionate look at both the psychic and physical edgelands of the town where I grew up, punctuated by snapshots of modern Britain as viewed from a distant hillside.”
“It’s about the inevitability of nature (in all senses of the word) over the order we try to impose on it. The quiet, melancholy choruses lament the loss of community spaces for marginalised people, and the overall pace is meant to evoke a long walk, collaging found sound, strings and insistent piano to create a mildly psychedelic pop odyssey.”
The new Maxïmo Park album ‘Nature Always Wins’ is released on 26 of February, 2021. Pre-order your copy on Signed CD, Signed Coloured Vinyl and a Bundle containing Signed Double Vinyl + Signed Coloured Eco Mix Vinyl + Zine + 3 Pack Of Seeds.
