Jake Bugg, The Engine Shed, Lincoln - 13th December 2023

Amazing

The venue wasn’t that well lay out like we didn’t know there was a merch stand till 5 minutes before leaving and we didn’t see the toilets immediately but the size of the venue, sound system was AMAZING. I went to see Jake Bugg and he’s always amazing but especially in this venue. The price was fair but as he didn’t decide to do a tour close to me I had to travel meaning more money was spent on the travelling, food, petrol, train ticket and cloakroom. So all over this was an expensive trip but so worth it for Jake Bugg

Absolutely Ace

It was genuinely one of the best nights of my life. What an event organised so so well. And Buggy was absolutely outstanding.

Jake Bugg, The Nick Rayns LCR, UEA, Norwich - 12th December 2023

Clifton based singer / songwriter Jake Bugg has a timeless quality; giving rock n roll a fresh sound for the 21st century.

The Nottingham lad has released five studio albums, including Jake Bugg (2012), Shangri La (2013), On My One (2016), Hearts That Strain (2017) and Saturday Night, Sunday Morning (2021).

Artist Bio

With his immediately recognisable voice; Jake Bugg is the sound of modern indie. The singer-songwriter from Clifton, Nottingham, is once again hitting the road and ready to play yet another amazing show.

Jake Edwin Kennedy Bugg had been destined to be a footballer. With numerous medals, trophies and certificates to his name plus being scouted by professional teams it looked like his future was set until his Uncle Mark gave him a guitar at the age of thirteen and his life rocketed in a new direction.

Relentlessly playing, he soon became absolutely dedicated to music and soon began gigging around the various venues of Nottingham.

He didn't know how I'd react if he said he was playing in a pub in Nottingham city centre so he kept me out of the loop. There was a chance I'd say no. The idea of my 15-year-old son playing in a city centre pub on his own, in a room full of people drinking alcohol, doesn't sit well with me but I probably would have been OK with it as long myself or his mum went with him.” - David Bugg

By the time he was 17, Bugg had created quite a name for himself and appeared on the Introducing Stage at 2011’s Glastonbury Festival. He was soon signed to Mercury Records and released his debut album the following year which was simply titled Jake Bugg.

Despite the music being largely written by a creative team, the album saw Bugg shoot to fame after it went to #1 and sold over 604,000 copies in the UK. The Platinum certified album also earned a Mercury Prize nomination.

People chimed to its laddish swagger and, bolstered by previous success, Bugg began to play a greater part in writing his own music for the second album. Shangri La was released in 2013 and includes the massive single What Doesn’t Kill You.

Bugg’s sought inspiration from the streets of Nottingham for the title of On My One. Much like the name suggest, the album is not only the first to be entirely penned by Bugg but it was also largely produced by him, benefitting from Jacknife Lee being on hand.

On My One features the baggy influenced track Gimme The Love and the aching ballad Love, Hope and Misery.

His latest LP is named Hearts That Strain and the likely lad released it in the Autumn of 2017 to huge critical acclaim. It includes the track Waiting which features a contribution from Noah Cyrus.

The most impressive item here is the deep-soul duet with Miley’s sister Noah Cyrus, “Waiting”, in which Bugg’s aching delivery is perfectly tempered by her fragile sweetness, like vocal salted caramel.” - The Independent
