Sparks, The Queen's Hall, Edinburgh - 20th September 2017

Fantastic Show

It has come back to me why I liked Sparks all those years ago. Fantastic Show. Is Russell really 68? Unbelievable. Such energy and the falsetto voice is still great. and Ron? Well so much stage presence with so little movement and loved the unexpected dance moves. Only one criticism. But not of Sparks though The beer is horrendously expensive. Shot yourself in the foot really. If it was reasonably priced I would have bought more than 1.

Brilliiant

A great mixture of classics and soon to be classics - they had the audience in the palm of their hand from the off - the sound was excellent and the atmosphere was great - O2 Institute/Digbeth Civic Hall is one of the most underrated live venues in Birmingham

Sparks, O2 Institute Birmingham, Birmingham - 24th September 2017

Godlike genius

Sparks , the band missing from most peoples bucket lists but far more worthy than the bloated stadium fillers they prefer. Ron Mael is the Robert Wise of song writing, creator of many great pocket sized social commentaries with the wit of Tom Lehrer and the pop nowse of greats such as Lieber and Stoller yet little known to the masses. Not to overlook Russell who exudes a Peter Pan youthfulness as he prances and bounds around the stage singing old songs and hitting the high notes belying his age and out performing his peers (equal only in age not in talent). They've out lived most of the acts they've influenced over the years and don't have to resort to greatest hits packages to entertain as they performed a significant number of songs off the new album.
