Great gig!

Such a great gig both Sage and B Dolan were superb, good crowd as well.

Wordsmith Sage Francis is considered one of this generations greatest lyricists. He first started working in Hip Hop but progressed into a more poetic spoken word style that is emphasised by the accompanying music rather than being determined by it.

Paul William Francis is true lyrical and musical pioneer. He blazed his own trail with his innovative work making him highly influential in what was to become consolidated into a genre known as Indie-Hop. He cut his teeth earning titles in MC battles whilst self-recording innovative mixtapes and producing 12” of his work despite having no real means of distribution.

Francis was amongst the first to understand the true power of the internet and used file transfer to spread his work out to an eager international audience. This unregulated underground free means of spreading his music added to the cult image he was building of himself.

Thoughtful and precise, his lyrical skill and audacious talent sees him address topics that other artists would barely conceive with such precision that comes with the authority of skill. His work address the personal, political, cultural and commentary of the world around him and the inner ideas that make him so interesting.

Words like great are used all too often but in this case seem way too small to do him justice. His live shows are essential for anyone with a serious interest in poetry, hip hop or music as a whole.

This year sees him tour together with B. Dolan. The firebrand poet is a master MC who made his name among the artist’s quarter in New York during the late 1990s and early ‘00s. He started out in slam poetry contests, where the audience and not independent judges decide the winner. He has since distanced himself from the genre, preferring instead to perform, rather than compete.

Musician, rapper, poet and activist, B. Dolan is the perfect partner for the spectacular Sage Francis.

Together, they will perform at The Deaf Institute, Leeds Brudenell Social Club, Start The Bus in Bristol, The Forge and Bush Hall in London.
