Ocean Colour Scene , Albert Hall, Manchester - 1st December 2018

Mod revivalists Ocean Colour Scene rose to prominence in the mid 90’s to become a definitive part of the Britpop movement.

Famed for their huge indie anthem "The Riverboat Song" which became the guest intro track on anarchic Chris Evans chat show TFI Friday, plus "The Day We Caught the Train", "Hundred Mile High City", "The Circle", "Travellers Tune" and "You've Got It Bad".

Ocean Colour Scene have released ten studio albums, including their multi-platinum masterpiece Moseley Shoals and No. 1 record Marchin' Already.

Artist Bio

Mod revivalist indie band Ocean Colour Scene can boast an impressive ten studio albums. The band are currently enjoying the twentieth anniversary of their huge hit album Mosely Shoals.

Ocean Colour Scene currently include drummer Oscar Harrison, ace guitarist Steve Craddock, lead vocals from Simon Fowler and they are joined by Raymond Meade.

Their beginning was somewhat of a false start, as they signed to indie label Phfftt Records in 1990 after they heard the EP Suburban Love Songs. The band recorded their eponymously titled debut album but were dismayed after the label forced a remix deemed to sound more like the emerging Manchester sound resulting in a confused finished product that failed to make any impact. They soon found themselves back on the dole and continuing to write music without any means to release it to a wider audience.

Relief came when they were invited by Paul Weller to play support at a number of his dates. The prominent gigs combined with the rise of Britpop created renewed label interest in the band who then signed to MCA Records. They then released their best known album Moseley Shoals in 1996 which hit #2 and continued to stay in the UK Charts for 92 weeks. The definitive nineties album featured the tracks The Day We Caught The Train and The Riverboat Song which came to be used whenever a guest would arrive on cult show TFI Friday. The follow up album Marchin’ Already topped the charts at #1 and even displaced Oasis album Be Here Now in 1997.

Their further studio albums include One From The Modern, Mechanical Wonder, North Atlantic Drift, A Hyperactive Workout For The Flying Squad, On The Leyline, Saturday and Painting.
