Hi there Gigantic gang,
Looking forward to your weekend? Of course you are! And Gigantic is right there with you, bringing all the hottest new tunes, essential albums and the tickets to hear all your favourite new songs being played live. With a real passion for music, Gigantic is the best place to discover the most exciting new material.
Need something nasty and loud in your life? Then you need JOHN. Comprised of just vocalist drummer John Newton and guitarist Johnny Healy (hence the band name), the pair have already demanded attention with the release of their debut album ‘God Speed in The National Limit’ which was seven tracks of rampaging punk rock and caught the attention of Bristolian post punks IDLES who took them around mainland Europe as their support act. Now looking towards LP number 2, they have just dropped the blistering new track ‘Future Thinker’.
“With the song initially thrashed out from a relatively personal perspective, I became quickly aware of the more collective dilemma of looking for an image of a future. It’s not a surprise that there’s a visible struggle in the present exacerbated by cyclic production and obsolescence. I think that’s why I find there’s a beautiful economy in playing music, of course you need the tools of electricity and instruments, but the songs are contained inside you, they help create a shared moment that dissipates after the lights are switched on.” - John Newton
‘Future Thinker’ is unrelenting, abrasive and a thrilling descent into madness and even includes a saxophonist contribution from Chlöe Herrington. It will appear on their second album ‘Out Here On The Fringes’ which was recorded at Bear Bites Horse Studio in East London with previous collaborator Wayne Adams.
‘Damage Done’ is a rousing piece of indie rock from London based lads Sea Girls. It’s the new single from the band tipped for big things after building a loyal following through relentless gigging plus signing to major label Polydor Records. After already impressing with anthemic single ‘Lost’, ‘Damage Done’ really shows off their sensitive side. Singer Harry Camamile explains more:
“'Damage Done' is about young love and moving on. The night before the song was written I recognised that a part of my past was amazing, a bit flawed and broken all at the same time. I wanted to try to be at peace with it, and to realise that better things are to come rather than holding onto the past. I sort of told myself I’m singing to no one if I’m not thinking of the future.”
Catch Sea Girls at Tramlines in Sheffield during July. Plus, the kick off their very own headline tour in November.
With the departure of Yui Mizuno AKA Yuimetal from kawaii metal band BABYMETAL last year, many feared it would be the end of their favourite hardcore Japanese idol band. Mizuno explains the reason for her leaving;
"I feel very sorry that my decision will disturb the other members and some many fans who have supported BABYMETAL. I am further terribly sorry to sadden the fans who have supported BABYMETAL. I had the strong desire to appear on stage again but my physical condition is not at its best even now, and further I feel that I would like to pursue my dream, one that I have had from a long time ago, of going on my own as Mizuno Yui. It is these factors that led to my decision."
However, Suzuka Nakamoto (Su-metal) and Moa Kikuchi (Moametal) have made the decision to carry on as a duo an announced their first US arena show, a new album and the release of brand-new single Elevator Girl’. They will also be taking over O2 Academy Brixton in London on Tuesday 2nd of July.
Showing no signs of diminishing despite now reduced in number, their latest offering is yet another 2.44 blast of ferocious oddity combining elements of drum and bass, frenetic vocals, power metal riffs and is sure to be a hit with their growing number of fans worldwide.
Compelling Norwegian electronica artist Aurora is back with her emotionally charged new single ‘The River’. Calling for a release of the tension inside, it finds a strength in being open and honest about the times we feel at our most vulnerable.
"It’s quite a happy song… it’s been a while since I’ve had a joyful song so it feels very nice. It was inspired by something quite sad as I looked at the suicide rates on this planet and apparently 73% of them were men and then I thought, why is that the case? Then I realised, obviously, it must be because of the feeling that you can’t talk about your emotions and show that you’re in pain because pain is often associated with weakness but you know, here in my world it’s not, so the song is inspired by something quite sad but it is also happy because crying can be such a positive experience, especially afterwards when you actually feel a bit lighter. It’s about that feeling to let off some steam as they say here in England."
‘The River’ will feature on her upcoming third LP ‘A Different Kind of Human’, scheduled for release in June, alongside her other single ‘The Seed’ which came out last month. She promotes her new material with a tour in November, with tickets currently selling fast with Gigantic.
It’s already been a massive year for Scottish song writer Lewis Capaldi. He has already hit No. 1 with ‘Someone You Loved’ and now he releases debut album ‘Divinely Uninspired To A Hellish Extent’ which features the single.
“I’m absolutely buzzing to finally be able to announce my debut album. I never thought I’d get to the point where I’d be able to release a proper album and I ABSOLUTELY never thought that when I did, I would give it a name as stupid I have, but here we are.
Everyone always tells you about how amazing recording their first album was and how they’ll always look back on the ‘process’ with fond memories. I will look back on it as an extremely stressful time that somehow also managed to be extremely boring. The actual process of building the songs up I loved, but recording the same guitar parts over and over again to get them right and going back on mixes for weeks, I did not.
I hope people don’t think it’s shit. I mean don’t get me wrong there will be one or two stinkers on there, but I’m only human and we all make mistakes, but as a whole I think it’s pretty fucking good.
I’m excited for it to be released and have people finally be able to hear a full body of work from me for the first time. Should it bomb completely or receive an absolute critical lambasting, don’t worry, it’s just my life’s work up until this point…..”
Capaldi plays two outdoor gigs at Scarborough Open Air Theatre this summer plus he makes appearances at Tramlines plus This Is Tomorrow Festival with Stereophonics. He heads out on tour in November too.
