Emotional intensity conveyed through wrought guitars and impassioned vocals was the signature style for Brooklyn songwriter Margaret Glaspy.
Following on from her remarkable debut album ‘Emotions and Math’ and the acclaimed ‘Born Yesterday’ EP, Glaspy now returns with the phenomenal second record ‘Devotion’ which sees the songwriter further embracing electronica to add a new dimension to her incredible sound.
Showing remarkable depth and emotion, Brooklyn based songwriter Margaret Glaspy more than proved herself with the release of debut album ‘Emotions and Math’ in 2016. Whilst previous EP’s ‘Homeschool’ and ‘If & When’ hinted at something special on its way, Glaspy made good on her promising talent on the LP that solidified her fanbase and had critics queuing up to sing her praises.
Two years later, Glaspy returned with her acclaimed ‘Born Yesterday’ EP. Opting to take a stripped-down approach and really rock out on three anguished tracks that are a dense fusion of blues and alt rock.
Following a short hiatus, Glaspy teamed up with L.A. producer Tyler Chester to record her second full length album; ‘Devotion’. Taking a completely new direction, the skilled guitarist now began to adopt Ableton into the songwriter process and added an element of brooding synthpop to her music as heard across the twelve fresh songs that explore modern romance.
"It's about letting love in even when you don't know what will happen when you do. It's about devoting your heart to someone or something, against all odds."
Check out singles ‘Killing What Keeps Us Alive’, which gave us a first taste of her new embrace of electronica, and the achingly beautiful ‘Stay With Me’ that perhaps best presents the themes and messages conveyed on ‘Devotion’.
“I’m learning that life is painful but you take the bad with the good, that love is hard but if you love someone, you make yourself available; that life is short and it’s okay to be sincere.”
