Who are Low Island?

Formed in Oxford in 2016, Low Island are instinctive shape-shifters, darting between uplifting electronica and intimate ballads. It was a step that was both deliberate and natural: ‘there was a euphoria we didn’t always get from indie gigs, but a connection to songs and musicians we felt was missing from club nights'.

Fiercely independent, and born out a shared musical upbringing encompassing jazz, indie, classical and dance music, theirs is a soundtrack to a 20s scattered with romantic and professional failure; melancholic, but quietly optimistic. Carlos, Jamie, Felix and Jacob follow in the lineage of Oxford artists; tenacious, free-spirited, and with a musical horizon of boundless possibility.

In April 2021 they released their debut album, under their own terms, self-managed and on their own label 'Emotional Interference'. To widespread critical acclaim their debut album reached #17 in the Official UK Album Sales Charts.

Artist Bio

Low Island are championed by the likes of Huw Stephens, Lauren Laverne, Tom Robinson, Tom Ravenscroft and Phil Taggart who have all given them prominent airplay.

First started by Jamie and Carlos when producing a theatre score, the pair had previously worked together with bassist Jacob in a former alt-rock band. Finally joined by percussionist Felix who had toured with Snarky Puppy they announced a debut gig at The Sebright Arms which quickly sold out.

Having only released a handful of tracks, the Oxford based band have already impressed a great many and their debut EP titled Just About Somewhere has already chalked up a staggering 700,000 streams on Spotify.

“We have another EP on the way to follow up our first one, which we are really excited about. This one is more energetic than the last. Like the last one, it was all recorded in our garage. Sometimes we leave the windows open, so there’s this ballad on the new EP with a load of birdsong in the drum recording.”
