Wonderful Kishi Bashi

Just brilliant. Venue, staff and the multi-talented KB made for a great night at the Oslo.

Kishi Bashi, Oslo, London - 14th May 2017

Amazing

Amazing small intimate gig, the night ended with an acoustic performance in the middle of the crowd.

Kishi Bashi, The Soup Kitchen, Manchester - 12th May 2017

Kishi Bashi is the stage name of indie-pop and psychedelic musician Kaoru Ishibashi. A founding member of Jupiter One and a former member of indie group of Montreal, he has been working as a solo artist for over a decade. His studio albums output includes 151a (2012), Lighght (2014), Sonderlust (2016) and Omoiyari (2019).

Artist Bio

Having collaborated and toured with indie outfits Of Montreal, Regina Spektor, and Sondre Lerche and singing in NYC synth rock band Jupiter One, singer, violinist, and composer, K Ishibashi (aka Kishi Bashi) set about creating a solo project. This solo project working under the pseudonym Kishi Bashi quickly became known for its dazzling array of looping and vocal/violin gymnastics.

He first released his debut album 151a in 2012 which immediately thrilled all critics.

Everything on 151a is mixed so that every sound is waiting to be heard. Every cherished moment is ready and waiting for you to hear it.” - Beats Per Minute

His luxuriant loop-based instrumentation on display is easy to lose yourself in, making your life seem, for just a moment, much more epic than it actually is.” - CMJ

It was followed two years later by his second album titled Lighght. His greatest commercial success hitting #52 on the Billboard 200, it is widely regarded as his magnus opus.

He’s produced his finest work to date.” - The Line Of Best Fit

His output has continued with the albums Sonderlust and his latest LP Omoiyari which compares the recent rise of white supremacy in the US with the past attacks on ethnic minorities by the government during the Pacific War. It will soon be accompanied by a documentary.

Omoiyari is certainly a rewarding listen and joy to play. Given the weighty political message, it is a great surprise that Kishi Bashi has been able to create quite such a delicately ornate record. Whereas others may have opted for anger or fallen into despair, Omoiyari is an album which proves that truth and beautiful hold an undeniable power which will always outshine hate, ignorance and inequality.” - Jimi Arundell, Indie Is Not A Genre
