This is the first time I have seen Iris DeMent live, having been a fan of her work for many years. I thought I had a good idea of what to expect: able musicianship, incisive lyrics and a social conscience allied to a deep personal faith. I was right - all of those things shone through. What I was not expecting was the brio of the performance. Iris, ably backed and supported by Liz Draper on upright bass and Ana Egge on guitar/mandolin, gripped us by the throat from the off and stormed her way through her set, particularly when seated at the piano. She brought a lump to the throat, she made you smile and she never failed to engage you in the deepest way. One of the most involving and satisfying performances it has been my pleasure to be at for some considerable time. Wow!

Iris DeMent, Islington Assembly Hall, London - 1st November 2023
Iris was amazing with her anecdotes, her beautiful songs, often with hard hitting lyrics expertly played and sung such that the audience was in raptures by the end. The playlist was excellent in that it was varied and from across most of her albums. A really great evening.

Great artist, great venue. I have waited years to see Iris in concert and was not disappointed.

Been over twenty years since I last saw Iris here and it was worth the wait, she’s looking good and her voice is as unmistakable as ever. One or two older numbers that I would have liked to have heard and/or surprised she didn’t play but overall a good solid performance with excellent accompaniment from Liz Draper on bass and Anna Egge on guitar and mandolin.

I went to see Iris Dement in concert at the Islington Assembly Hall. I last seen her play in the mid nineties and was excited about this performance. She was sublime from start to end. Looking forward to whenever she comes across the pond again.
