Julian Cope, Riverside Newcastle, Newcastle Upon Tyne - 14th February 2020

A very psychedelic songalong from the odinator

Julian made me laugh and delighted the packed Crowd of his old fans. all grown up with him, we knew what to expect and that was Julian’s gone full Odin on our asses. He becomes the god man trickster we would most like to invite to a dinner party, or to take mushrooms with. He was immense.

Julian Cope, Concorde 2, Brighton - 7th February 2020

Incredible

He was as incredible as I hoped he’d be. I haven’t seen him live since the late 80s so this was an important gig for me. Still so much love in my heart for JC and his beautiful voice ❤️

Julian Cope Tramshed Cardiff

Excellent live performance, playing a variety of songs from his extensive musical past mixed with some of his more contemporary work. Last time I saw Julian Cope play live was in the late 1980's, and I really wish I had caught more of his performances over the years. The Arch Drude gave a great show, loved every minute.

Artist Bio

The career of the infinitely talented Julian Cope has seen him encompass many facets and become a poet, cultural commentator, author and the ultimate rock musician. Originally finding fame with seminal post punk band The Teardrop Explodes, Cope has continued his work as a solo artist and explored other musical avenues with various projects.

Wild, anarchic and with a leaning towards self destruction, Cope’s work is thrilling and his life performances utterly enthralling.

The Welsh born lad moved to Tamworth at an early age before attending college in Liverpool where he first became involved in music. This lead to him forming influential band The Teardrop Explodes. Marrying the deconstructive creativity of post punk with the prevailing psychedelic influences in Liverpool, the band was able to create music that was at once popular yet critically compelling.

Initially, the band would only last a total of four years but would release the two essential albums Kilimanjaro and Wilder. They would later reunite in the 90’s and release the record Everybody Wants To Shag… The Teardrop Explodes.

Following the first split, Cope began to work on his own and produced the incredible album World Shut Your Mouth. The release earned massive critical respect and quickly established him as a solo musical entity. His work has continued and seen him release twenty-seven solo studio albums so far, with no sign of stopping!
