Amazing!

Jethro Tull 50th anniversary concert confirms once again the visionary talent of Ian Anderson and his fellow musicians. Fifty seasons and still going strong: JT are far from being predictable and reinvent themselves showing how cutting-edge their repertoire is. Perhaps it’s a pity that in a show celebrating JT material from their first 10 years “Hymn 43”, “The whistler”, “Fat man” and most of all “Wond’ring aloud” are not included in the set list. On the other hand, if there are certain songs that people need and want to hear, a real fan lets his band invest into the unknown and lead him/her where no one knows (not even the band sometimes!). That’s what Jethro Tull did in their amazing show at the Liverpool Echo Arena on April 7 2018 and will do in their 50th anniversary tour.

An unforgettable Evening

An amazing night. A wonderful celebration of 50 years of Tull. Ian is a true showman still, leaping about the stage like a youngster. The performance was on of the best enhanced by the incredible timing of the video footage. Ian's voice was not as strong as in the past but it didn't stop him putting on a first rate show. Still, in my mind, the best live band around. Thank you to all concerned with the show. On the negative side the Apollo needs better toilets and better parking. With the money that O2 makes out of this venue, some should at least be spent improving the facilities.

Such a great catalogue reminder

Probably the most stable JT lineup ever! Always a great band though. Slight pity that Ian Anderson's voice is not as strong as in the past, but loved hearing that song selection again... haven't stopped playing Stand Up since! Love Story worth most the entrance fee alone.

Great performance

Well he’s still got it and although his vocals were weaker these days his adaptation using backing videos for Heavy Horses and Aqualung were excellent we both loved the concert thanks Mr Anderson you still rock x

Artist Bio

Ian Anderson and the Jethro Tull band, one of the world's most successful and enduring ‘progressive rock’ bands, have announced that they will return to the road with The Prog Years Tour 2020 with 11 dates across the UK in September and October.

This tour will draw heavily on material from Jethro Tull’s more 'prog' albums, much of it focussing on the early ‘heavy hitters’ of the Tull catalogue, classic albums including Stand Up, Benefit, Aqualung, Thick As A Brick, Passion Play and even a touch of Thick As A Brick 2 from 2012.

From the outset, Tull’s frontman Ian Anderson created the distinctive persona of the tousled flute-playing minstrel, balanced on one leg and playing music with an historical slant. Jethro Tull continues to hold a unique place in the hearts of progressive music fans and these albums are the focus of that passion.

Ian says: “Dusting off many older “progressive” songs amongst my earliest attempts to experiment outside the blues repertoire we began with has proved hugely enjoyable. Along the way, over the last 50 years, there have been a good few pieces that still strongly resonate with me today on either a musical or lyrical level. Hopefully both. Some are really tricky to play; some might sound that way but fall under the fingers quite naturally altough the overall arrangements require feats of memory! Test my marbles; come to the party!”

Ian Anderson will be accompanied by Tull band musicians David Goodier (bass), John O'Hara (keyboards), guitarist Joe Parrish and Scott Hammond on drums. The show will be enhanced by full scale video projection.
