Explosions In the Sky are a post rock quartet from Texas made up of Chris Hrasky, Michael James, Munaf Rayani and Mark Smith. Their dynamic music is characterised by complicated arrangements executed with infectious excitement. Dynamic in nature, their songs will often feature parts that are gentle and tender which are patiently built to a euphoric crescendo.

Their typical setup is three guitars and drums with no vocals although the band are not afraid to experiment with the texture of their music having also used bass guitar and also included strings and keys to their sound too.

Formally named Breaker Morant, the band changed their name to Explosions In the Sky in 1999. They have released seven studio albums over the past sixteen years whilst also recording the soundtrack for international films and major movies.

The Wilderness was released in April of 2016 and is the band’s 6th album. Described by Pitchfork as “Quietly masterful, emotionally rich work”, the album blends electronic experimentation with ambient folk and blizzards of synth work.
