Swedish band Amon Amarth formed in 1992, and took their moniker from the Sindarin name of Mount Doom as read in J.R.R. Tolkien's masterpiece The Lord Of The Rings. Packed full of face melting riffs; they have released twelve studio albums including debut record Once Sent From The Grand Hall and their latest release The Great Heathen Army which dropped last year.

Artist Bio

Amon Amarth are a melodic death metal band that take their name is taken from the Sundarin name of Mount Doom from the JRR Tolkien novels The Lord Of The Rings. They are considered the world leaders in Viking Metal.

The current line-up of the band includes Johan Hegg on vocals, guitarists Olavi Mikkonen and Johan Söderberg with Ted Lundström on bass.

The band had previously played grindcore using the name Scum who formed in 1988. Following their demise they reinvented themselves as the death metal band Amon Amarth.

In 1993 they recorded their first demo Thor Arise which was never released due to the band being unhappy with the sound. Their second demo Arrival Of The Fimbul Winter quickly sold all of its 1000 copies.

They were signed to Metal Blade and released the EP Sorrow Throughout The Nine Worlds in 1996. The band released their debut album Once Sent From The Golden Hall in 1998 followed by the album The Avenger in 1999. The records continued to draw on Norse mythology and Viking themes, with other titles including With Oden On Our Side and Twilight Of The Thunder God.

Jomsviking is the name of their brand-new record. Released in March of 2016, it is the band’s tenth studio album exploring the fictional story of a man that falls in love with a woman who has already been betrothed. His rage leads to tragedy, and demand for revenge and his inevitable descent.
